In Madurai district, 114 rural godowns have come up under Nabard lending during the last two years, said K Palanivelu, Regional Joint Director of Co-operatives.
Inaugurating a regional workshop here, he said that during the last three years, the bank has lent under RIDF, over ₹250 crore to the State Government for construction of over 2000 rural godowns in various primary agriculture co-operative credit societies, giving a facelift to grassroot-level credit institutions.
He said farmers who moved away from the co-operative sector, are coming backand the Department was intent on getting accreditation of these godowns.
R Shankar Narayan, AGM, Nabard, Madurai, urged the officials to understand the nuances of project preparation of critical infrastructure projects to facilitate lending under the RIDF window.
