The Karnataka Government has initiated permanent measures to repair the highway on Shirady Ghat between Mangalore and Bangalore, according to Ramanath Rai, Karnataka Forest Minister and minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada district.
Chairing a meeting to review various development projects of the district on Saturday, he said that the permanent works, including concreting of 13 km of the road in Shirady Ghat stretch, will be carried out after the monsoon season.
The total project cost of all the works on the stretch is estimated at ₹151.18 crore. Of this, the Central Road Transport Department has sanctioned works to the tune of ₹95.54 crore. The works under this phase include concreting of a 13-km stretch of the road and asphalting of another 21-km stretch of the road on Shirady Ghat section.
The meeting was informed that the Shirady Ghat section of the road will be closed for vehicular traffic during the repair period from October. For this, the Minister instructed the officials concerned to make alternative arrangements for the movement of vehicular traffic during the repair works.
