Additional District Judge KP Indira on Saturday took charge as Chairperson of the five-member committee appointed by the Supreme Court to administer the Padmanabhaswamy temple here.

She also received keys of the underground vaults and other rooms of the temple from Bhuvanachandran Nair, who has been holding charge as executive officer.

Both he and administrative officer Jayasekharan Nair have proceeded on leave as per orders issued by the court on the basis of a report submitted by Amicus Curiae Gopal Subramaniam.

Member of the Travancore royal family Aditya Varma, who was present at the temple on Saturday, handed over the cellar keys to Indira.

Members of the royal family have said that they would file a petition in the Supreme Court against the amicus curiae report before the next hearing on August 6.

They agreed that discrepancies in the running of the temple administration needed to be addressed. But efforts to keep them away from the temple administration or to implicate them in any manner were unwarranted.
