BJP National President Amit Shah has held the 14th Finance Commission as main reason for Andhra Pradesh not getting special category status.

At a public meeting in the city, he claimed that the Cong(I) appointed Commission stood in the way of the Narendra Modi Government in granting the special status. However, the NDA Government has found a way out by giving special package to the State. “AP will not lose a single rupee on this count and the special package will make up for this”, he said exhorting the party cadre to take the message to the masses and defeat the designs of the Congress.

The BJP Chief said the Party’s march to victory in AP should begin from the historic city of Vijayawada. “We are going to make determined efforts to make inroads into AP by strengthening the party right from the booth level in the coming days and the party cadre should strive hard to achieve the goal”, he added.

Amit Shah said the NDA Government had done so much for AP during the past three years “that during the previous 67 years since Independence that much has not been done for the State.” He quantified it as ₹1,75,000 crores worth of assistance. His speech was translated by former Union Minister and daughter of NT Rama Rao, Daggubati Purandeswari.

He said the Centre was funding the mega Polavaram project on the Godavari and it had granted several prestigious educational institutions to the State. The airports in the State were being upgraded and Vijayawada airport had been granted international airport status. “We have done so much for the State and we will continue to do so in the future and the Congress leaders should realise it before making allegations,” he said.

Under Narendra Modi, the Centre had formulated 106 schemes to benefit the poor and needy. The PM would visit AP in July to attend the national executive meeting of the party in Visakhapatnam and the occasion should be celebrated all over the State. He said he himself would tour the State for three days in August and review the progress made in strengthening the party.
