The Andhra Pradesh Government is seeking to develop additional power generation capacity of 15,869 MW by 2018-19.

As per the power plan charted out by the State and approved by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the additional generation capacity of 15,869 MW by 2018-19 includes thermal (3240 MW), Central Generating Stations (1949 MW), solar (3150 MW), wind (7030 MW) and others (500 mw)

Keeping in view of the future requirements of power, the Chief Minister has emphasised the need to work out modalities to expedite the construction of the power projects to meet the increasing demand which is expected to be around 15 per cent per annum.

Reviewing the upcoming power projects with IYR Krishna Rao, State Chief Secretary, he suggested the need to adopt a long term plan and directed officials to ensure fresh capacity addition as per plans to ensure quality, affordable “Power For All (24 x 7).”

The State, which was reeling under power deficit with daily shortage of 22 MU (million units) when he assumed office earlier this year as Chief Minister, now has ‘zero’ power deficit, he said.

Referring to Atal Behari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister, Naidu said in 1997 he was instrumental in AP getting the entire power from NTPC Simhadri Stage-I of 1000 MW (2 X 500 MW) plant located in Visakhapatnam.

He said, now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has allocated the 4000 MW NTPC plant to AP at Pudimadaka in Visakhapatnam.
