The Centre on Thursday sought a report from the Punjab government on the death of a teenage girl after she was allegedly molested and thrown off a moving bus with her mother. The girl died while her mother sustained serious injuries.

“We have sought a report from the State government on the incident and the report is expected anytime,” a top Home Ministry official said.

The conductor and cleaner of the bus, reportedly belonging to Orbit Aviation, a company owned by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s family, were today arrested by the police in connection with the horrific incident which occurred last evening near Moga.

The 38-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter were rushed to Moga civil hospital, where the girl was declared brought dead. Earlier reports attributed to the police had said the duo had jumped off the vehicle to escape the molesters.
