A chickenpox outbreak among some nurses at a government hospital here prompted authorities to send about 500 of them on a week’s leave as a precautionary measure.
Dr Vallinayagam, dean of the Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital said some nurses had contracted chickenpox after which 500 of their colleagues were asked to proceed on one week leave last night.
Asked how the hospital would manage the situation with so many nurses being sent on leave, he said they would make do with available staff.
