Providing a major impetus to the National Energy Conservation (EnCon) movement, 290 companies across various sectors have achieved an annual recurring saving of ₹3,393 crore in the past three years.

It was achieved by implementing 6,731 projects with an investment of ₹4,907 crore, according to CII.

Companies awarded

At the CII Energy Efficiency Summit, 154 companies were awarded with the CII National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2017 by Ajay Mishra, Special Chief Secretary, Energy Department, Telangana.

Mishra said the Indian industry is in the forefront in adopting and promoting latest energy efficient tools and technologies. This indeed augurs well for the ecology and economy. He said the Telangana government is committed to build a green state.

Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss Industries, highlighted the need to accord priority sector lending status to energy efficiency and called for appropriate policy interventions and financing mechanisms.

Apart from expressing the need to create a robust banking process to fuel energy efficiency in the country, Purushothaman stressed the need to embrace automation, technology, and artificial intelligence in accelerating energy management across the sectors.

‘Islands of excellence’

KN Rao, Director-Energy & Environment, ACC Ltd, said that while the Indian industry has islands of excellence, most factories are not energy-efficient.

Rao wanted the government to encourage the growth of Energy Service Company (ESCO) for accelerating the promotion of energy management tools and technologies.

Anil Kumar Epur, Past Chairman, CII-SR, said CII has been proactively promoting sustainability initiatives and assisting companies adopt best practices. A step towards this direction is the launch of GreenCo rating system, the first of its kind in the world. GreenCo rating evaluates the degree of green performance and suggests the way forward.
