Delhi added a new case of Omicron on Saturday and with this the total Omicron cases in the National Capital rose to two. The fresh case is a 35-year-old Indian male who had returned from Zimbabwe.  Now in the LNJP hospital in the capital, there are 31 patients from “At Risk” including 2 confirmed cases of Omicron. Besides this, 8 patients have been discharged, as per sources.

In Rajasthan and Mumbai, no new case of Omicron was found. While, in Rajasthan, all the nine cases which were detected as Omicron positive, have been discharged after they tested negative. Besides this, four other suspected cases were also discharged after testing negative. So, in total 13 were discharged, as per sources. 

“Genome sequencing of the other suspected 8 cases is pending ,” a source told BusinessLine.

In Mumbai, there were a total of 17 cases of Omicron on Saturday, out of which 7 have been discharged after they were found negative through RT PCR test. 

Further, the Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Saturday wrote a letter to the States/ UTs reporting high positivity in the past two weeks. The Government directed them to be watchful of the Covid situation in the eight districts of Mizoram, Kerala and Sikkim, which have been reporting a positivity rate of over 10 per cent in the last two weeks.  Bhushan asked them to take targeted district-level actions to lower the clusters of fresh cases. Besides these 19 districts in Kerala, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Manipur, West Bengal, Nagaland recorded a positivity rate between 5 to 10 per cent, Bhushan underlined in the letter.

India reported 7,992 Covid cases on Saturday with 393 deaths in the last 24 hours till 8:00 AM, as per the Health Ministry data. Cumulatively, India registered 3.46 crore cases so far out of which total death toll was 4.75 lakh. 

It is to be noted that the weekly positivity rate stood at 0.71 per cent, remaining less than 1 per cent for the last 27 days and the daily positivity rate was at 0.64 per cent. The daily positivity rate remained below 2 per cent for the last 68 days and below 3 per cent for 103 consecutive days.

Meanwhile, India conducted 12.50 lakh Covid tests during the previous day aggregating to 65.46 crore tests done so far. 

In addition, India administered 84.34 lakh vaccine doses till 7:00 PM on Saturday taking to a total of 132.87 crore inoculations done so far. Also, the Government informed Friday that more than   18.28 crore vaccine doses were still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
