With an eye to the Assembly elections next year, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has announced a few key infrastructure projects for Bengaluru city and welfare schemes for the urban poor. There are 28 Assembly constituencies in the city.

‘Namma Canteens’ will be launched to serve affordable food to the people. One canteen in each of 198 wards of Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will be opened. They will serve breakfast at ₹5 and lunch and dinner at ₹10. An allocation of ₹100 crore has been made for the purpose.

Metro Phase-3

Budget also provides for feasibility study of Namma Metro Phase-3. Suitable alignment to connect Kempegowda International Airport is under finalisation.

In continuation of the systematic City Road Upgradation Policy of the government, 43 major roads of about 80 km length will be white topped and the pedestrian facilities upgraded at a cost of ₹690 crore.

Also, 25 interconnected roads of 25 km length in ‘Bengaluru’s Central Business District (CBD)’ will be upgraded under 3rd stage of Tender Sure model at the cost of ₹250 crore.

A dozen high traffic density corridors have been identified and ₹150 crore will be earmarked for the development and maintenance of these corridors. Keeping in view the safety of pedestrians, ₹200 crore will be allocated for developing footpaths along various roads of 200-km length.
