Finance Minister Arun Jaitley met Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi here on Monday, sparking rumours that the duo discussed the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament.
Personal visit? Though there was no confirmation from both sides, it is learnt that Jaitley’s visit was personal – to invite the Congress leader for the wedding of his daughter.
The Congress’ support is essential for the passing of crucial legislations such as Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill and the Land Acquisition Bill in Rajya Sabha. Jaitley had reportedly expressed his willingness to talk to senior Congress leaders on the pending reform Bills.
“As of now, there is no proposal from the government,” a senior MP of the Congress told BusinessLine . He added that the Congress is not averse to talks on any issues, including the Land Bill and the GST Bill.
