The Karnataka Milk Federation on Monday resolved to urge the state government to approve its proposal for increasing the milk price by Rs 4 per litre to help milk producing farmers.
The KMF board meeting, attended by representatives of thirteen milk unions, decided to recommend for the price hike, its Chairman G Somasekhara Reddy told reporters.
“We will convince the government of the need to hike the milk prices. It has become inevitable for increasing the rate as cost of production has gone up”, Reddy said.
Currently the ordinary variety of milk supplied by KMF is priced at Rs 24 per litre. The KMF wants the government to notify the hike with effect from February 1.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar said he would place the issue before the coming cabinet meeting for discussion.
