Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, Arvind Kejriwal and Prashant Bhushan, on Monday met the Lt Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung, and demanded fresh elections in Delhi, which has been under President’s rule since February 14
“Met the Lt Governor and requested him to consider conducting elections in Delhi immediately. LG said he would consider,” Kejriwal tweeted.
The AAP leaders, who submitted a memorandum to Jung demanding reconsideration of his earlier decision on the matter, accused the BJP and Congress of ‘match-fixing’ to avoid fresh Assembly elections.
“The extreme reluctance of these parties to make their stand public on the issue was evident during the hearing of the AAP petition in the Supreme Court on Monday, when they sought more time to file their replies,” said AAP in a release, adding that both the parties “are running away from facing the Assembly elections and are denying the people their basic right of having an elected State government.”
On February 14, the Kejriwal–led Delhi government had stepped down as it could not get the Jan Lokpal Bill passed in the 70-member House, in which it had 27 MLAs.
