Bharatiya Janata Party’s Prime Ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday assured formation of a National Multi-Skills Mission with focus on labour-intensive job growth, if voted to power.

Addressing an election rally at Erode, he linked the ‘wrong policies’ of the UPA Government to jobless growth and urged the people to vote for a Government that would work, a leadership that would have a decisive and accountable role in transforming the country. He was seeking support for Erode Lok Sabha candidate A Ganesha Moorthy of MDMK and Tirupur DMDK candidate Dinesh Kumar.

Infra support Speaking at the turmeric hub, Modi promised to transform the economy of Erode with value additions to the perennial herbaceous plant, known for its medicinal use. “We will provide the right type of infrastructure linkage and create a conducive environment for the growth of the textile sector.

“It was under the UPA regime that the skilled artisans took to unskilled work for survival,” he said and assured that the BJP would develop the entire value chain from skill development, modernisation, credit linkage and market linkage and transform the economy.

Decisive mandate Modi, who is now on a whirlwind tour, addressed an election meeting in Coimbatore on Wednesday, where he urged the people of the State to give a decisive mandate for change of rule at the Centre.

“When I took over as Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001, the State was in darkness. People requested me to give them at least one light at dinner time. By 2004, Gujarat is able to supply power to every nook and corner of the State,” he said.
