Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has suggested some modifications to the capital city master plan now under preparation by experts in Singapore.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, Naidu, on a two-day tour of Singapore, held meetings with Singapore’s Minister of Foreign Affairs K Shanmugam and Ambassador-at-Large Gopinath Pillai followed by a meeting with Singapore’s Second Minister for Trade and Industry S Iswaran.

During the meeting with Iswaran, a general contour of the capital region was presented where the Chief Minister suggested few modifications. The capital city master plan will be refined by incorporating these suggestions and modifications in the next six to eight weeks.

The Andhra Pradesh delegation outlined the land pooling process and the timelines for developing the new capital city, which would have two ring roads and several radial roads connecting various small towns to the core capital region.

The Chief Minister said Vijayawada could be business and trading hub, Nandigama, a pharma hub, Gannavaram, would serve as a value-added economic hub and Amaravati, a tourism hub.

On Singapore-India’s trade relations, the Chief Minister said trade between Indian and Singapore has been increasing steadily. “Singapore is India’s largest trading partner in ASEAN and one of the largest sources of foreign investment globally,” he added.

The Chief Minister said the detailed plan will be out by June 2015.

MoU with NUS The Andhra Pradesh Government and National University of Singapore will work together and develop a “Masterplan on Ease of Doing Business in AP.”

A Memorandum of Understanding between NUS (acting through the Asian Competitiveness Institute at Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy), AP and CII is proposed for cooperation in relation to “Masterplan on Ease of Doing Business in Andhra Pradesh (MEDBAP): Vision 2020” and other related activities.

The duration of the MoU is from April 1 to March 31, 2018.
