The Kerala Industries Minister, Mr P.K. Kunhalikkutty, has said that there is no question of entrusting beach sand mining to the private sector.
This is the stated policy of the State government, and there has not been any review of the same, the Minister said while dismissing reports to the contrary.
A section of the media had reported that a proposal was made by the Kerala State Mineral Development Corporation (Kemdel) to the previous government. Beach sand mining requires huge capital investment. But the Kemdel proposal was worth just Rs 8 crore to be implemented as a private-public partnership project.
