The industrial units in Andhra Pradesh, especially pharma and chemical units, should adopt international safety standards and they should make no compromises on the count, according to State Minister for Labour, Employment, and Factories P. Satyanarayana.
He was speaking at the inaugural of a two-day workshop on industrial safety in pharma sector organised by the Department of Factories here on Wednesday.
He said "the government is planning to set up a committee to inquiry into the working conditions of workers in various factories and also assess the safety measures, especially in chemical and pharmaceutical companies."
The minister said there were 94 pharma industries in the three north-coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Vizianagaram and in the past three years 217 accidents had occurred, 53 of them occurring in Visakhapantam district alone. He said the number of accidents should be brought down and zero accident rate should be the aim.
He advised the workers to follow the safety parameters.
Director of Factories G. Balakishore said the industry should invest on a regular basis on upgrading safety parameters.
Representatives of various pharma and chemical units participated in the event.
