Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that upliftment of the weaker sections of society should be the focus of the Budget session. Speaking to reporters ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament, Modi said, “We should make the most use of our healthy system of parliamentary committees and discuss aspects of the Budget. Let us think about the well-being of rural India, our farmers, Dalits, tribal communities, Mazdoors:”
Triple Talaq Bill
Modi also said that all parties should come together to pass the bill on Triple Talaq during the winter session. He said, “We have to pass this bill and protect the Muslim women.” While the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017, sailed through the Lok Sabha, it is pending in the Rajya Sabhja as several opposition parties demanded that it be referred to a select committee.
“This budget session is important. The world is extremely optimistic about India. The Budget will add new vigour to India’s development and will fulfill aspirations of people,” he added.
The Budget session of Parliament got under way today.
