Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Friday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “arrogance” in wishing for the BJP to rule Gujarat for hundred years.

Campaigning for second phase polls in Ranesar of Ahmedabad district, Rahul referred to Modi’s appeal to the people not to vote out the BJP in Gujarat for 100 years. “Look at Modiji’s ghamand (arrogance). Irrespective of what people think or choose, Modiji feels BJP should rule for 100 years. What kind of mindset is this? He chooses to speak on everything but the issues pertaining to Gujarat,” he said.

He also attacked the BJP for its delay in releasing an election manifesto. “Campaigning on half of the seats has ended. The elections too will be over in a few days. But the Prime Minister has nothing to tell you about your future?” he asked.

“He would say, we will rule Gujarat for 100 years. He will speak of his past achievements. But not a word on the future of the people of Gujarat in the next five years.”

Addressing tribal communities at Pavi Jetpur in Chhota Udepur district, Rahul promised laws that will protect their interests. “After extensive consultations and six months of brain storming, we prepared the people’s manifesto and released it. Unlike Modiji, who tells you his mann ki baat , I will tell you your mann ki baat ,” he told the gathering.

“You want your rights protected for forest and water. You want to fill vacant government posts in six months. In five years, you want your houses to be made pucca. You want tribal scholarships and also adequate compensation for your land. We have included these in our manifesto and our government will work to provide it,” he said.

“This election is not about Narendra Modiji, nor it is about Rahul Gandhi. This election is about the people of Gujarat and the future of tribals, poor, women and children.”

Rahul travelled across districts of Central Gujarat on Friday. He will travel to North Gujarat on Saturday, covering the crucial districts of Banaskantha and Mehsana. He will also hold a public meeting at Modi’s hometown Vadnagar tomorrow.
