Depositors and agents of the Saradha Group and other unauthorised companies operating money collection schemes on Thursday demonstrated outside the Bidhannagar Police commissionerate office.
Demonstrators demanded the interrogation and arrest of all people named by Kunal Ghosh in his tell-tale video. They were led by eminent octogenarian Sunanda Sanyal – once the face of Mamata Banerjee’s intellectual brigage; other leaders across political parties that include CPI-M leader Sujon Chakrabarty; Vice-President, Sameer Putananda and former Naxal leader Ashim Chatterjee.
Demonstrations took place around 3.30 p.m. in Salt Lake.
Initially, police resisted and then used force to disperse demonstrators. Sanyal and other Left leaders were later arrested.
The Saradha Group went bust in April this year and is said to have scammed investors to the tune of approximately Rs 2,000 crore. Kunal Ghosh, a Trinamool Congress MP and the CEO for the Group's media ventures, was arrested last week.
