Several villages in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district were flooded as a safety embankment caved in and was washed away in the heavy flow of water, official sources said.
The 30-meter long safety embankment built at Jamindari caved in at eight to ten places in the current of the flood water leading to the flooding of Raghopur, Alalpur, Shankarpur, Kachheri Tola and Nankar villages affecting about 50,000 people, the sources said.
District Magistrate Prem Singh Meena and Deputy Collector for Land Reforms Sanjay Kumar visited the spot to inspect the situation arising out of the flood-like situation at Navghachhia block.
The irrigation department has been directed to build the embankment afresh, the sources said, adding if necessary the villagers may be shifted to safer places.
