Sonia says Modi to blame for Parliament washout

Holding the Prime Minister responsible for the washout of the Monsoon Session, Congress President Sonia Gandhi criticised what she called the “blatant insensitivity of the Narendra Modi government to public opinion, manifested in its absolute silence on acts of monumental corruption, wilful violations of law and flagrant misdemeanours on the part of its leading lights.”

“On the one hand, he never misses an opportunity to claim the moral high ground on transparency, integrity and accountability. On the other he has been conspicuous by his deafening silence on the blatant transgressions by his External Affairs Minister (Sushma Swaraj) and two of his chief ministers (Vasundhara Raje Scindia and Shivraj Singh Chouhan). The champion of mann ki baat appears to have retreated into a maun vrat,” she told a Congress Parliame-ntary Party meeting here. She said the Congress has had to listen to sermons on parliam-entary behaviour from the BJP, which advocated disruption as a legitimate tactic while in the Opposition. She questioned the BJP’s “principle” of “resign-now-debate-later” which it used on at least five occasions during the UPA rule.
