The Srisailam dam left bank canal pump house of 900 MW will commence power generation on Tuesday thereby adding to 770 MW the right bank project that has already begun generation on Sunday.
“With the reservoir continuing to get huge inflows from upper reaches including from Almatti dam in neighbouring Karnataka, we have decided to commence generation in he left bank pump house,” Vijayanad, Managing Director of AP Genco told Business Line .
This will significantly add to the hydel power generation in the State. Already all the six units of 39 MW in Jurala project have commenced power generation and 770 MW at Srisailam is contributing to the grid. “A senior official is monitoring works at the power house site and we expect to commence generation in all of the 900 mw by tomorrow,” he said.
With the water level at 875 feet as against 885 ft of full reservoir level, the generation in both the pump houses and full capacity would add significantly to the grid.
While the Srisailam dam is close to its full level, the Nagarjunasagar dam has water up to about 525 ft as against the full reservoir level of 590 ft. Together these reservoirs hold about 200 tmc feet.
Based on the assessment of water storage patterns, the State had decided to have minimum draw level of 854 ft. It is this level from which water is let out through its canals downstream serving both Rayalaseema and Telangana regions of the State.
