Tata Motors Limited has launched Bolt hatchback in the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh markets on Tuesday and expects this to significantly boost its volumes.

This Bolt hatch is the company’s second launch in five months after its successful introduction of Zest compact sedan late last year.

The launch of Bolt takes us to the next level of intense product focus that the company has initiated, Timothy A Leverton, President and Head, advanced and product engineering, Tata Motors, said launching the new car.

The hatch is powered by Revotron 1.2 turbo-charged petrol engine and equipped with ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment by Harman, the first in the segment. The car is priced between Rs 4.45 lakh and Rs 6.09 lakh ex-showroom in Hyderabad for the petrol variants and Rs 5.55 lakh to Rs 7.08 for the diesel variants.

Ashesh Dhar, Head, Product Marketing, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said the company has received good response following the launch of Zest and Bolt and expects these two new offerings from the Tata stable to help increase its market share.

Dhar said that hatchbacks account for about 50 per cent of the total market and the launch of Bolt would help garner volumes. The Indian automotive market is expected to do better this year. About 2.20 lakh units are sold every month where hatchbacks contribute to about 50 per cent.

Asked about likely changes in consumer preferences, he said there has been increase in demand for petrol cars in the city commute use as the price difference between petrol and diesel has come down. “And the price difference between a petrol and a diesel car continuing to be about Rs one lakh more, we see petrol cars gaining share,” Dhar said.
