Works on the Rs 25,000-crore Telangana Water Grid will begin this month end. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao will lay the foundation stone to formally kick off the project at Choutappal in Nalgonda district.

The project is aimed at providing water for irrigation and industry, besides meeting drinking water needs of the people. When completed, the network would have over one lakh kilometres long pipelines connecting all the habitats of the State.

The Government said it would begin works in Nalgonda district, which is home for villages that are severely impacted by fluorosis.

The State Government had sanctioned Rs 100 crore for conducting a survey on the grid. It also convened a meeting of pipe manufacturers to discuss the pipe requirements for the project.
