Bengaluru-based start-up Trip38 is working closely with airports and airlines across the globe to transform passenger experience.

This travel management app aims to disrupt the way travellers find information post booking their travel ticket, Niranjan Gupta, Founder, Trip38.

“We have just scratched the surface on this by letting the App help the traveller stay one step ahead rather than keep the user glued to his mobile, searching for information.  For instance, the app would provide flight status/ alerts, airport information and gate, sight seeing options, restaurants, local events, weather, hotel offers/ deals, embassy / consulate info etc., all delivered on the traveller’s smart phone with the confirmation voucher or flight tickets,” he explained.

With ability to check-in to more than 100+ airlines, provide info about 350,000+ hotels across the globe, sight seeing options running into 180,000, facilities and service details for more than 150 airports, information about check-in and baggage allowance, “it is much more than a guide, a handy encyclopaedia”.

“We are now working on features like mobile boarding passes, personalised alerts and offers via iBeacons,” he said adding “the app has been downloaded across 70 countries. India accounts for 40 to 50 per cent of app usage with the present user base at a little over 25000.

To a query on Trip38 plans going forward, he said “we are expecting at least 3 million downloads of the app (globally) in the next 12 to 18 months. Apart from India, our key geographies are Singapore and Hong Kong in the Asia Pacific region, Africa and Europe and the Middle East.”

On funding, he said “we recently raised Rs 6 cr from InterGlobe Technology Quotient (leaders in aviation, hospitality and travel-related services) and Singapore-based Lantern Capital, a venture capital firm. The funds will be used for enhancing Trip38's product features.”

On earnings, he said “our focus at present is to have significant traction on the app download and usage. However, we have a number of revenue monetisation opportunities like pushing ancillary revenues for airlines via Trip38 app, enabling offers/ discounts for retail and duty free outlets at airports and so on”.
