Desperate family members of an elderly couple, missing since the June floods in Uttarakhand, have moved the Uttarakhand High Court which today asked the state government about efforts that have been made to locate them.

Hearing a petition filed by Narsingh Rohit, son-in law of the missing couple from Rajasthan, the single bench of Justice V K Bisht directed the state government to submit a counter affidavit giving details of steps taken in search of the missing persons.

Lakhan Lal Sharma, his wife Vimal Sharma and their neighbours Pyare Lal Swarnkar and Geeta, all from Jaipur, Rajasthan, were headed for Kedarnath on June 15.

After the disaster took place on July 16, all four of them were seen on a TV channel reporting a rescue operation from Jangalchatti in Kedar valley, the petitioner claimed. However, none of them has returned home as yet, he said.

The family members have searched for them at different locations in Kedarnath region and also in Dehradun besides contacting various levels of administration for help but to no avail, the petitioner said.

“Having failed to get a clue to their whereabouts I have moved the court,” Rohit said.
