A six-member committee has been set up to study various options for cleaning of the 49 km stretch of river Yamuna flowing through Delhi, a statement from the Ministry of Urban Development said on Wednesday.
The committee, headed by Secretary(Water Resources), Government of India, will include representatives of the Ministries of Urban Development, Water Resources, Surface Transport, Environment, besides Delhi Government.
It will submit a report by September for further consideration by the Centre and Delhi.
Union Minister of Urban Development M.Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday chaired a meeting with Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal, PWD Minister Satyendra Jain, Delhi Jal Board Chairman Kapil Misra, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharati and Surface Transport and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari and senior officials from respective departments.
