Youth is the flavour of the times. Policy-makers are waking up to the increasingly important role this demography plays in the economy. Not to be left behind, Business Line too has been paying specific attention to the young and bright minds — an effort in this direction was the launch of a stand alone product called Business Line On Campus in December 2012.

Taking this forward, the paper inaugurated the Delhi region’s Business Line Club at the IIT Delhi campus on Thursday.

The Business Line Club forms an interface between industry and academia allowing the two entities to work with each other to evolve current practices in the industry.

While talking about the importance of oil and gas, Sunil Bharti, Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications, Cairn India, said that the young students, who will be the leaders of tomorrow will play an important role in deciding which way the country will go.

“You need to decide what you need to do, what the nation will do, what kind of energy mix you want,” he said, adding in a lighter tone that the people with grey hair, or the ones who dye the greys, will no longer be there to make those decisions.

Cairn India is the principal sponsor for the BL Club activities.

Bharti also said, “Technology, knowledge, skills can be acquired and sometimes bought off the shelf, but it is the attitude that matters.”

Adding to this Ajoy Shah, Deputy General Manager, JK Tyres, also highlighted the importance of adhering to some important virtues of truth, prelevance, unselfishness, simplicity and timing for the upcoming leaders.

He added that a competitor will always come up for every product and service, even if it is unique, and in such an environment it is important for leaders to differentiate themselves. And this edge, he said, can be achieved only by developing and nurturing human relationships.
