Industry chamber, Assocham (Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India), has condemned the widespread destruction of industrial properties in Noida during the two-day strike.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Assocham Secretary General D.S. Rawat appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to immediately tighten the security in the sub-city.

'Bharat bandh'

“Horrific incidents in the name of ‘Bharat bandh’ cannot be tolerated and the administration should take the strongest possible measures and punitive action against the culprits,” Rawat said.

He lamented that the police could not even ensure full security and claimed that some incidents had been reported even on Thursday.

“Pictures showing burning cars and industrial property spread all over the media really scares the investors,” he added.

Assocham said investment worth thousands of crores has been made in the area in educational institutions, automobile units, IT software, electronics and hospitality sectors.

“If a sense of security is not immediately provided, the realty sector will take the biggest hit,” the chamber added.

While the chamber said that it shares the genuine concerns of the workers, it should not mean “we bring the economy to a standstill’’.

In most of industrial States and enclaves, attendance was poor leading to curtailing of production shifts, it added.
