Providing a major impetus to Energy Conservation movement in Indian industry the CII National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2018 was presented to over 150 companies for their out-of-box models and innovative approaches.

Their efforts were recognised as innovative and futuristic towards energy management initiatives that facilitated in enhancing their companies’ bottom-line.

Ajay Mishra, Special Chief Secretary, Energy, Telangana, and Pankaj Kumar, Secretary, Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), awarded 14 units as ‘National Energy Leader,’ 48 units as ‘Excellent Energy Efficient units,’ 83 units as ‘Energy efficient units’ and 7 units for their innovative products and services.

Earlier, as part of CII National Award for Excellence in Energy Management 2018, over 270 companies had submitted their proposals and over 150 companies were shortlisted and invited to make their presentations.

Conservation projects

The shortlisted companies have cumulatively implemented more than 4,800 energy conservation projects and achieved a total saving of about ₹900 crore in the last three years. Ajay Mishra said Telangana would offer all support in taking forward their energy management and green initiatives.

AK Tewari, Principal Executive Director, Environment, Indian Railways said the Indian Railways is partnering with CII in greening its buildings, workshops and production units. Indian Railways has launched a Policy Initiative for Greening IR Establishments in all the 16 Zones.

Secunderabad, Jaipur, Howrah, New Delhi, Chennai, Varanasi and Katra are Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) rated green railway stations, he said.

Ravichandran Purushothaman, President, Danfoss Industries, said, “The need of the hour is to embrace the digital technologies and the whole Internet of Things (IoT) has to be explored for improved energy efficiency. We have to bring in better business models.”

Philip Mathew, Chief Manufacturing Officer, ACC Ltd, said the Indian cement industry is the oldest and most energy-efficient sector in the world and the second largest in terms of scale after China. The concerted efforts of various players in the cement sector towards energy efficiency have ensured that the sector does well creating new benchmarks to be globally competitive.
