In order to boost male-female sex ratio, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called fathers to post selfie with daughter on social media. At the same time, he has also appealed to gift three social security schemes to female on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

“We can convert ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padho’ scheme in a mass movement. We should take forward the work started by Sunil from Bibipur village in Haryana. I urge all of you to share a #SelfieWithDaughter. Also share a tagline that will encourage 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,” Modi said in his 9th edition of radio broadcast ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday.

The best chosen tagline along with selfie will be re-tweeted by the Prime Minister himself.

Modi is concerned about the declining sex ratio of girls in nearly 100 districts of the country and among these, Haryana has a major share. Keeping this in mind, a village Sarpanch in Haryana, Sunil Jagla, has initiated a competition of posting selfie with daughters and soon it became national news. Such an initiative will wash away ‘blot’ (killing female foeticide), Modi felt.

Rakhi Gift

Making a strong pitch to provide a better and safe life to female population, the Prime Minister has urged the nation to gift three social security schemes, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Surakasha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Atal Pension Yojana (APY) to female population on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan which will be celebrated on August 29. These three schemes were launched last month and around 10 crore people have already been enrolled.

PMJJBY is a life insurance scheme which provides life cover worth Rs 2 lakh for a year at the annual premium of Rs 330, while PMSBY provides accident insurance over of Rs 2 lakh at the annual premium of Rs 12.

APY is a pension scheme where anyone between the age of 18 and 40 can contribute between Rs 210 and Rs 4,545 to earn a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 (lower contribution of lower monthly pension such as Rs 1,000), besides an assured sum to the family after the age of 60.

Responsibility on Yoga

Counting the success of International Yoga Day, Modi said that the sun will never set in the world of yoga. “Now it is our responsibility to give best yoga teachers to the world. It is our responsibility to provide all the traditions of yoga on one platform,” he said, while urging IT professionals to prepare a scheme for online yoga activity.

It should have a database of institutions and teachers besides more and more details about yoga. Modi also expressed confidence that wherever it get started, it will become a power.

Government at work

Recalling days of pessimism a year ago, Modi said that this Government has given better results once the target is fixed. He supported his argument by talking about how little known Ayush Department-led International Yoga Day at global level or rescue or relief work in Yemen and Nepal or even Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana which brought crore and crore people within the ambit of financial inclusion.

Remembering his appeal of toilet in each school made during Independence Day speech last year, he said that constructing 4.5 lakh toilets in a year was not easy, but ‘work is almost done'.
