Former Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata, who had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking to protect his right to privacy, made a personal appearance in the ongoing proceedings at the Supreme Court earlier on Wednesday morning, emphasising his keen interest in the progress of the case.

The apex court is hearing a petition filed by Tata in November 2010, in which he had sought action against those involved in the leakage of tapes containing his conversation with former corporate lobbyist Nira Radia.

A Tata Sons spokesperson said, "Ratan Tata has filed this writ petition on a matter of principle. He believes privacy is an important right for every individual and is keenly following the progress of the case.''

In his petition, Tata had termed the leaked tapes an invasion of his privacy. He had also asked the Supreme Court for a copy of the report submitted by the government explaining how the tapes were leaked.
