Due to the derailment of five coaches of Chennai Egmore–Mangalore Express early morning, Southern Railways has announced diversion and cancellation of various trains today.

According to railway sources, about 39 people were injured in the accident. All of them were given treatment at the government hopsital in Vriddachalam.

The derailment happened near Puvanur on Villupuram-Vriddhachalam section at around 2 am today in Cuddalore district.

Consequent to the derailment, following trains were diverted via. Cuddalore port Junction:

Train No.16182 Manamadurai – Chennai Egmore Silambu express.

Train No.12662 Sengottai – Chennai Egmore Podhigai express

Train No.12634 Kanniyakumari – Chennai Egmore Kanniyakumari express

Train No.12632 Tirunelveli – Chennai Egmore Nellai express.

Train No.12694 Tuticorin – Chennai Egmore Pearlcity express.

The following trains are diverted via. Mayiladuthurai:

Train No.16714 Rameswaram – Chennai Egmore express.

Train No.16724 Thiruvananthapuram – Chennai Egmore Ananthapuri express.

Train No.12606 Karaikkudi – Chennai Egmore Pallavan express.

Train No.12636 Madurai – Chennai Egmore Vaigai express.

T.No.56805 Cuddalore – Tiruchchirappalli Passenger is partially cancelled between Cuddalore and Vriddhachalam

T.No.56875 Villupuram – Mayiladuturai Passenger is fully cancelled.

T.No.56706 Madurai – Villupuram Passenger is partially cancelled between Tiruchchirappalli and Villupuram.

T.No.56705 Villupuram – Madurai Passenger is partially cancelled between Villupuram and Tiruchchirappalli.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J jayalalithaa has announced a solatium of ₹50,000 to persons with severe injury and ₹25,000 to those with minor injury, said a state government press release.
