The Narendra Modi-led NDA Government has appointed Gujarat-based “Corporate Crusader” V.K. Saxena as the new Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).

 

Following a Union Government notification to this effect on Monday, Saxena took charge of the Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday.

He had joined the JK Group in Rajasthan in 1984 and became CEO of green-field project of Dholera Port in 1998. He was appointed its Director in 2007 and became Chairman of the company in 2012. At present, he is director of an upcoming port company.

In 1991, Saxena had founded the National Council for Civil Liberties (NCCL), an NGO, to fight against “social injustice”, according to a press release hereon Wednesday.

In 2008, he was felicitated at the United Nations’ Decade of Sustainable Development (UNDESD), UNESCO and UNDP in association with IAEWP, USA, for his “Outstanding Contribution to Environment Protection and Water Security.” In 2007, his project Mission ENDURE, to make Ahmadabad a dust free city, got the UN-Habitat sponsored “Dubai International Award,” for adopting the best practices to improve living environment in the City.
