Rescue work in progress in the SLBC tunnel near Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district on Friday.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has on Monday directed Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari to appoint senior IAS officer Shiva Sankar Loteti to monitor rescue operations at the Srisailam Left Bank Tunnel in Domalapenta in Telangaana.
In a review meeting on the operations currently in progress at the tunnel to rescue seven missing workers here, Reddy directed the officials to take suggestions from the experts and also seek permissions from the Center, if necessary to hasten the operations.
A part of the roof of the tunnel that was under construction collapsed on February 22 when 50 workers were inside. While 42 were rushed to safety, eight workers were trapped inside and a worker was found dead later. The whereabouts of seven workers are still unknown and nearly 300 members of rescue teams including those from NDRF and SDRF have been working round the clock for the last one month in the rescue operations.
