They are the unsung heroes of the ongoing IPL-6 — the uncapped players who have caught the eye with sterling performances for their franchises, giving more than what the franchises thought they were worth.

An IPL team comprises four overseas and seven domestic players in the playing XI. Out of the seven, some have represented the national side while others have not. The performance of these uncapped players has been directly reflected in the team’s fortunes in the current edition.

High power list

Leading the list of performers is Mohit Sharma of Chennai Super Kings. This 24-year-old Haryana right-arm medium-pacer has done extremely well, picking up 11 wickets in eight matches, with three for 10 being his best, achieved against Delhi Daredevils in Delhi.

Current skipper of Jharkhand, Shahbaz Nadeem, is a vital cog in the Daredevils’ team. The 23-year-old from Bokaro has been a regular with his left-arm orthodox spin and has taken seven wickets in 10 games with two for 17 being his best.

Two veterans have also made it to the list: Knight Riders’ Rajat Bhatia and Rajasthan Royals’ Siddharth Trivedi. The 33-year-old Bhatia has been his captain’s dependable bowler in the middle overs and a late-order batsman. With nine scalps from 11 games (two for 23 being his best), this Delhi all-rounder has nosed ahead of Manvinder Bisla to be the top uncapped player for his side.

Trivedi too is the middle-overs’ expert and has captured seven wickets in 10 games with three for 23 being his best. This 30-year-old may not get an India cap but has troubled the best of the country’s talent with his intelligent bowling.

Karan Sharma of Sunrisers is one of the three uncapped players along with Ashish Reddy and Hanuma Vihari who have emerged as impact players. Sharma has picked up five wickets from seven games with two for 19 being his best figures. Sharma’s economy rate of 5.59 has been the best in this edition so far.

The Meerut-born 25-year-old Railway employee’s prudent bowling has helped fellow leg-break bowler Amit Mishra emerge as one of the top wicket takers.

Kings XI Punjab’s opener Mandeep Singh has been one of the revelations of this edition. The 22-year-old has been outstanding, scoring 243 from 10 innings with an unbeaten 77 being his highest.

And, last but not the least, is Mumbai Indians’ Ambati Rayudu. The 27-year-old who plays for Baroda in the domestic circuit , has made the most of the limited opportunities that has come his way. He has 125 runs in his kitty from 10 matches and eight innings. Apart from picking up quick runs, this right-hander is a handy wicket-keeper too.
