Australian Test captain Michael Clarke and former skipper Ricky Ponting (now retired) received the highest base price of $400,000 for the IPL-6 auction to be held on February 3 in Chennai.

101 players

A list of 101 players, including seven Indians, to feature in the 2013 IPL player auction was released on Thursday. The list is dominated by South Africans, Sri Lankans and Australians.

Michael Clarke played for Pune Warriors India last year, after the team bought him on a one-year contract.

Ponting has played for the Kolkata Knight Riders; the franchise released him in 2010. Apart from the two Australians, the list also figures South African all-rounder Johan Botha and Indian medium pacer R. P. Singh.

Botha played for Rajasthan Royals till the last season.

He will be up for auction with a base price of $300,000. Released by the Mumbai Indians, R.P. Singh’s base price is $100,000.

West Indian all-rounder Darren Sammy will go under the hammer at a reserve price of $100,000.

England batsman Ravi Bopara ($100,000) and wicketkeeper batsman Matt Prior ($200,000) have made it to the auction list. Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy winning all-rounder Abhishek Nayar ($100,000) goes into the auction after being released by Kings XI Punjab.

His Mumbai team-mate Wasim Jaffer is also on the list at a reserve price of $50,000. Pacers Sudeep Tyagi, Jaydev Unadkat, Pankaj Singh and Manpreet Gony are the other Indians.

Players on the list who are not picked up in the auction, and those who made themselves available for the auction but did not make the list, may still be signed on, after the sale as injury replacements, said an IPL release.
