Thailand seeks to attract more Indian travellers by penetrating deeper into the Indian market and collaborating with travel and tour operators in the country.

Over the years, Thailand has seen a rise in tourist arrivals from India. It has decided to identify key cities to reach out for travel trade partners.

New products

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in Mumbai recently introduced its new marketing concept styled ‘Open to the New Shades of Amazing Thailand’.

To emphasise the new Thai products and services, it has planned roadshows in Chennai and Indore. The event will also help TAT understand the trends so that it can suggest customised packages.

TAT conducted ‘The Amazing Thailand’ roadshow in Chennai on September 3 and the Indore show is on September 5.

“Through these road shows, we plan to reach out to newer markets and enhance our association with travel trade partners,” said Walailak Noypayak, Executive Director for ASEAN, South Asia and South Pacific Region, Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Indian visitors

Thailand, among the most preferred destinations for Indians, recorded 919,130 tourist arrivals from India during January-July 2018, an increase of 13.24 per cent. Indian tourists generated total revenue of 41,771 million THB, registering a growth of 15.39 per cent.

In 2017, Thailand saw record tourist arrivals from India with more than 1.2 million tourists visiting the nation, a growth of 20 per cent over 2016 arrivals.

“This year, we felt it was important to visit Chennai and Indore as we have noticed an increase in arrivals/bookings from these cities,” said Cholada Siddhivarn, Director, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Mumbai.
