The Tamil Nadu government signed two MoUs with the Australian government to improve seafood production and to strengthen road safety and management.

As per the MoU signed with the Australian Trade and Investment Commission to improve seafood production, Australian experts will share best practices, technology, research and methodology. The idea is to increase seafood production through sustainable means and maintaining international standard to increase exports, according to a press release.

The partnership will also facilitate exchange programmes between Tamil Nadu Fisheries University and universities in Australia for educating and training on latest technology. Tamil Nadu has a coastline of 1,076 km. Around 9.94 lakh people in 13 coastal districts are dependent on fishing and fisheries related field for employment.

Road safety

In a separate press release, the government announced it has entered into an MoU with the Roads Corporation of Victoria for guidance for highway planning, improving road safety, traffic management and improving the overall performance of State highways department. The release said the agency would also offer training programmes in using latest technology for safety and management, research and development programmes and managing finance. The State has 59,459-km length of highways. The partnership will better maintenance and traffic management thereby improving safety of people travelling in these roads.
