The Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, has said that the Varkala Cliff and its surroundings would be declared a protected zone ahead of being formally called a ‘geo park.’
Mr Chandy said this while addressing a meeting of officials to discuss ways of maintaining the rare geographical feature off the beach in Varkala, near here.
Construction activity in the vicinity and piling-up of waste would need to be stopped forthwith. The Chief Minister authorised the director, tourism, to notify the declaration of the area as a protected zone.
