The bright days of summer are here and it's time to embrace the colours all around. But this time, the hues are taken up a notch. Acid or neon coloured accessories are a great way to take the dramatic element in your outfit to a new level and we have picked out some funky pieces for you to check out. Whether it is a pop of hot pink on your lips or a dash of dazzling yellow around your waist, the acid colour trend is easy and fun to implement.

Shock factor

Beauty trends this year began with a leaning towards acid colours, which was seen on the models at most Spring Summer fashion shows. Use orchid or fuschia coloured lipstick to keep the focus on your pretty pout. M.A.C has some funky shades as part of their new Shop and Cook collections. Painting your nails a sunny yellow or brilliant purple colour is both easy and low-maintenance. Revlon can help you out with their mandarin orange nail lacquer. For a night out, the eyes can be brightened using shimmery neon blue or acid green eyeshadow, like those from L’Oreal Paris, which are sure to contrast with your outfit for added punch.

Bright bags

Any mundane dress or top can be jazzed up with the right bag but a fluorescent coloured catch-all is the best way to spice things up. Satchels in cherry red or blazing orange, like the ones from Jimmy Choo and ck Jeans are great for keeping the look casual yet trendy. Clutches, when paired with the right dress are a great accessory for the evening but pick one which is an eye-catcher, like the fiery fuschia number also from Jimmy Choo. Bottega Veneta’s multi-hued number has all the neon brightness you could hope for. Patent leather and other materials with some inherent shine are preferred as they can add to the acid effect.

Just a hint

If handbags and bright makeup draw too much attention for your liking, why not incorporate some fun, vivid belts and heels into your wardrobe? The go-to designer for colour, Christian Louboutin has some psychedelic pumps and open-toe heels both in multi-colours and luminous, solid colours that can satisfy your neon need while keeping your look understated. A bright belt, like the lemon yellow piece by Marc Cain is the perfect way to complete an outfit. Belts, wide or narrow are great carriers of acid colours. But the funkiest accessory of them all is the wide-brimmed hat. It’s great to keep out the summer sun while keeping you looking fashionable.
