Legendary filmmaker K Balachander, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city is critical but stable, hospital sources said.
The 84-year-old director and producer has been under treatment at the Kauvery Hospital since December 3 for age related health issues. He had high fever yesterday.
“Balachander has developed urinary tract infection and is admitted to the ICU. He is critical but his general condition is stable,” a medical bulletin of the hospital said, adding a team of senior doctors was on the job.
Senior DMK leader M K Stalin, actors Kushboo, K R Vijaya, film director Vikraman and actors Vijayakumar and Rajesh were among those who visited the ailing veteran at the hospital on Tuesday.
Actor Kamal Haasan, who is in the US for a film shoot, tried to speak over phone with Balachander.
However, he could not understand what the octogenarian tried to convey as the voice was “too feeble and unclear,” he said in his audio message posted on YouTube. He hailed Balachander as “En Asaan,” (My Guru).
Yesterday, actor Rajinikanth, who was also launched by Balachander, and veteran Tamil lyricist Vairamuthu had called on him.
