Some of the most eminent painters from West Bengal have come together to produce pieces of art that create awareness on the issue of malnutrition.

Under the ‘Art for Nutrition' campaign, 14 artists including Jogen Chowdhury, Samir Aich and Shuvaprasanna, have created a painting each highlighting the need for right nutrition for children.

Inaugurated today, most of the artwork are on the ‘mother and child theme' and reflect the passion of the artist on the issue of malnutrition.

Being organised by GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare, the proceeds from the sale will go to Child In Need Institute (CINI) to tackle malnutrition in the state.

Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, who is the brand ambassador of the campaign, said the simplicity and aspiration of children inspire her.

“Their simplicity, hopes and aspirations are so inspiring. We realise that we are constantly running towards something and are unhappy about so many things in our lives.

But these children who also have a lot of problems which can make them sad, remain unaffected and continue to smile all the time,” she said.

Describing art as the best way to support the cause, the actress said it crosses all barriers to touch the hearts of people.

With funds from the sale of paintings, CINI will run anti-malnutrition campaigns in two blocks of West Bengal.
