EmPassion, an art exhibition and coffee-table book dedicated to rescued strays was launched at an event. It witnessed an unique mix of empathy, passion & art along with an appeal to citizens to save Bengaluru’s street animals.

Animal lover and actress Samyukta Hornad opened the exhibition and released the coffee table book. The book contains true stories of 20 street dogs rescued by Sujaya N Jagadish and SOACT – Save Our Animals Charitable Trust. The paintings portray these dogs featured in the book and on canvass by artist Sandhya K Sirsi of ArtLabsExp. She has captured the journey of every rescued dogs in a portrait surrounded by line drawings.

Comending the efforts of Sujaya Jagadish, Ms Hornad, said “I am very personally moved by the multiple rescue efforts of volunteers such as Sujaya and the accompanying paintings of emotions of each of the dogs so vividly captured by artist Sandhya.”

“We need more people to come forward and sensitise citizens. We are all living in a very selfie-driven world which means we are all selfish and have no time for anyone else,” he added.

Coffee-table book

The coffee-table book titled “EmPassion – Our 2nd Chance @ Life” captures journeys of these abandoned pups and dogs from their perspective, penned by Sujaya.

Each page captures the rescued dog’s trauma along with its photograph and a painting.

The book contains testimonials penned by Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, former cricketer and India captain Rahul Dravid, cardiologist Padmashri Dr Ramana Rao, leading veterinarian Dr Pawan Kumar, actress Sruthi Hariharan, scientists and friends.

The art exhibition is on September 1 and 2 at “Chaya”, Rangoli Metro Arts Centre, MG Road between 11 am-7 pm.

All proceeds of the book and paintings will go towards funding more rescues of pets and furried strays.

“This event is being held to convince people to be more humane. We want more people to join in animal rescue and make it a movement. It should become a community effort,” Sujaya said.
