Boosting domestic tourism and cleaning all heritage places within three months will be the priority, the newly inducted Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge), Mahesh Sharma, said on Wednesday.
“My first proposal will be to set up tourist facilitation centres for international as well as domestic tourists and focus on cleanliness, security, and reception for tourists,” he said.
Stating that India has not been able to reach where it should have with respect to tourist arrivals, the minister said that he will not look at the past but look at opportunities such as medical tourism. The 55-year-old BJP MP from Gautam Buddha Nagar is a doctor by profession and the owner of Kailash Group of Hospitals.
On poor connectivity between airports, he said that he will propose helicopter services at 47 international airports for foreign tourists along the lines of the service offered in religious destination Vaishnodevi. Sharma is also the Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Minister of State for Culture (Independent Charge).
