Google doodle celebrates Kishore Kumar's birthday

Google's doodle today is a tribute to Kishore Kumar on his 85th birth anniversary.

Kishore Kumar - one of the greatest playback singers in Indian cinema, was a multi-faceted personality. He was also an actor, director and script writer. The doodle captures the different facets with symbols such as mask (for actor), camera (director), musical note (singer) and notepad (screenplay).

Kishore Kumar was born on August 4, 1929 at Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh (then Central Provinces and Berar) and has lent his voice to several generations of actors ranging from Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Rajesh Khanna to Sanjay Dutt and Chunkey Pandey.

He was born as Abhas Kumar Ganguly and changed his name to Kishore Kumar after he entered the film industry. His brother Ashok Kumar was also a versatile actor. Kishore Kumar is known for his distinctive style of singing that featured >yodelling. Kishore Kumar has sung in several languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Assamese, Kannada, Malayalam, Bhojpuri, Oriya and Urdu. He considered K.L. Saigal as his guru.

He married four times - Ruma Guha Thakurta (m. 1951–1958), Madhubala (m. 1960–1969), Yogeeta Bali (m. 1976–1978) and Leena Chandavarkar (m. 1980–1987).

He died on October 13, 1987, at the age of 58.
