Chennai-based Doopaadoo, which aggregates works of music composers and lyricists, provides aspiring musicians opportunities to break into the field of cinema, and is a low-budget option for producers too.

S Kaundeya, Founder and Chairman, said: “There is a lot of young talent in the country but they find it hard to break into the cinema industry. The platform acts as a bridge between producers and composers.”

How it works

The platform now has 160 composers and 45 lyricists, including popular musicians like Iman and Yuvan Shankar Raja and many independent artists with a music bank of 1,500 compositions. The producers can choose songs from the ready-made music bank. A team of five from the platform presents 15-20 compositions based on the producer’s criteria.

Kaundeya said songs can be customised and will be delivered in one week. “Producers get to choose one song from the list of 15-20 composed by different musicians. The songs that are chosen are deleted from the bank,” he said.

Madan Karky, President, said: “It is more economical and time-saving for producers, unlike now.” Currently it takes anywhere between six months and two years to complete music for a movie depending on the popularity of the music director. “Producers have to wait for a long time to get their schedule. Also options are less when you bank on a single music director.”

There is advantage in terms of cost as well. Generally, for a low-budget movie price ranges between ₹30-40 lakh to ₹4.5 crore, whereas the platform makes it possible anywhere from ₹25 lakh to ₹1 crore. Karky said: “So far directors love the platform.”

Apart from movies the company also works with television channels.
