Turkey’s seismology center says a 5.3 magnitude earthquake has rattled the country’s southeast, but authorities have reported no damage or injuries.
The Istanbul-based Kandilli Observatory says the quake occurred at 11:37 p.m. (local time) yesterday near the town of Uludere in Sirnak province, which borders Iraq.
Sirnak Gov. Vahdettin Ozkan told the state-run Anadolu Agency that no damage or injuries were immediately reported.
The quake was felt in nearby provinces, and television reports said it sent people rushing out of their homes in panic.
Earthquakes are common in Turkey, much of which lies atop fault lines.
