British children are ill-informed about cancer with some even believing they can get it from behaving badly, according to a new poll.
A survey by a UK-based charity found that more than half of 500 children polled said they do not know what cancer is, BBC News reported.
Ninety seven per cent children did not know that sunburn can cause cancer — although 91 did know smoking causes it.
Four per cent of the children who were aged nine to 16 years thought that cancer can be caught from someone else. One in five thought it is always fatal, while more than half said they do not know what it is.
Two-thirds of the children polled knew someone who has been diagnosed with cancer, though more than half said the word ‘cancer’ makes them feel frightened, the survey by Macmillan Cancer Support found.
